Η παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία αφορά την δημιουργία της εφαρμογής “Inside Old Town Of Athens”. Πρόκειται για μια εφαρμογή για Android συσκευές η οποία, συμπληρώνεται από ένα website. Μέσω της εφαρμογής ο χρήστης περπατάει στο ιστορικό κέντρο της Αθήνας, παίζοντας ένα παιχνίδι και γνωρίζει ανθρώπους, ιστορίες και κτήρια των αρχών του 19ου αιώνα, την περίοδο της βασιλείας του Όθωνα. Το σενάριο του παιχνιδιού βασίζεται σε πραγματικά στοιχεία, τα οποία συνδέονται με αληθοφανές τρόπο. Με εφόδια το κινητό και το φαντασιακό στοιχείο, ο χρήστης ακολουθεί τα βήματα ενός Άγγλου επιχειρηματία που φτάνει στην Αθήνα το 1835. Ουσιαστικά, το “Inside Old Town Of Athens” είναι ένα Pervasive game, που συνδυάζει στοιχεία εκπαιδευτικής εφαρμογής. Στο site ο χρήστης μπορεί να δει συγκεντρωμένες όλες τις πληροφορίες, για την ιστορία που μόλις έπαιξε. Σκοπός της εφαρμογής είναι να ωθήσει τον χρήστη να περπατήσει στο ιστορικό κέντρο, να διαδράσει με το περιβάλλον, να γνωρίσει πράγματα που δεν ήξερε και να εμβαθύνει στην γνώση που αποκόμισε μέσω του site ή μέσω δικής του προσωπικής έρευνας.
This project is about the design and creation of an application called “Inside Old Town Of Athens”. It is an application made for android devices, complemented by its own website and Facebook page. By loading this application, the user has to walk through the historic town of Athens, playing a game of riddles and getting to see historic buildings, learn about historic people and their stories, as well as the cultural elements which colored Athens at the beginning of the 19th century. The game’s script is based on true facts, which are presented in a very realistic way. Equipped with fantasy and a mobile phone, the player follows the footsteps of an English businessman who reaches Athens in 1835. Inside old town Athens is actually a pervasive game that combines features which attribute to a rather educational character. By visiting the website, the user is able to find all the information about the game, gathered in one place. The purpose of this application is to make the user walk through the historic part of Athens, interact with the environment, learn new things and further expand his knowledge of history either by visiting the website or by his own curiosity and research.
